OTO Vs OSIM Massage Chairs [Roller Technology, Features, Price]

Perhaps you’re all set to get the best massage chair for your needs, but, are you not sure whether to go for the Oto or Osim brand?

The Key Difference between OSIM and OTO Massage Chairs:

OTO chairs are known for their affordability and offer basic massage techniques such as kneading and rolling. OSIM chairs, on the other hand, are more expensive and feature advanced massage techniques such as 3D massage, zero gravity positioning, and Bluetooth connectivity.

In simple words, Osim offers the best options compared to OTO, unless you’re looking for a basic chair without the extra perks that come with modern chairs.

I buried my head into the intricacies and details of models from each brand, which led me to the bold claim above.

Let’s go ahead and see in detail how the two brands compare based on relevant functional features and other factors. Read on.

OTO vs Osim Massage Chairs (Key Differences)

Oto is a Chinese company with over 40 years worth of experience producing health and wellness products. The past few years have seen it producing an increasingly popular line of massage chairs, with notable examples including the latest Prime Elite and the Evolution

Osim massage chairs are part of health and wellness products produced by the Singapore-based, Osim International. The brand features a number of stand-alone models and 2-chair series known as uLove.

The latest uDream Wellbeing chair represents the brand’s peak of ingenuity, followed by some impressive models such as the uLove3 Wellbeing Chair and the uLove 2S.

1. Massage Roller Technology

1. Massage Roller Technology used in OTO and OSIM Chairs

The Osim brand offers more advanced core massage technology than Oto.

To illustrate this, let’s take a closer look at the elite massage chairs from each brand; uDream Wellbeing Chair(Osim) and the Prime Elite(Oto):

The uDream Wellbeing Chair offers an impressive massage roller system covering the upper and lower body. For the upper body, the chair comes with two sets of rollers; one for the back and Shoulders, and another for the buttocks and thighs.

Each set consists of four rollers, and the two sets move in a rhythmical fashion to deliver massage techniques to the back, buttocks and thighs concurrently.

Additionally, the rollers are designed in such a way that they rotate at 360 degrees in any direction thereby providing more fluidity, which offers a closer experience to actual human hands. The chair also comes with a set of rollers that cover the feet.

On the other hand, the Prime Elite offers a set of rollers that move along an SL track to cover the neck, back, buttocks and thighs.

In terms of movement, the rollers only move in a vertical plane, which makes them limited compared to the uDream Wellbeing chair. Additionally, the chair doesn’t come with foot rollers, thus further falling behind its competitor from Osim.

The same trend is also seen when I compared lower-priced models from each brand such as the uLove3 Wellbeing Chair (Osim) and Evolution (Oto). This sets the Osim brand miles ahead of Oto when it comes to massage roller technology.

Apart from rollers, Osim chairs, i.e., uDream Wellness, come with Kneading plates, which offer superficial and deep massage to the side of the thighs and calf areas. These offer deeper and more efficient massage to thigh and calf muscles compared to airbags, which are a typical feature for Oto massage chairs in these areas.

2. Massage Types

4. Suitable Massage Types on OSIM and OTO brand massage chairs

Both brands focus on massage techniques that provide a massage experience close to a type of massage known as Swedish Massage. This type uses conventional techniques such as rolling, kneading, tapping, clapping, friction and vibrations.

The massage chairs deliver these techniques through a series of rollers, airbags and kneading plates. These techniques can be seen in both the Prime Elite from Oto and uDream Wellness, as well as other lower-priced models.

The main difference between the two brands lies in their ability to deliver a form of massage known as foot reflexology. By definition, foot reflexology involves applying pressure on specific areas of the foot for various purposes including relaxation and improved blood circulation.

Top Osim massage chairs provide a similar experience to foot reflexology in the sense that they incorporate a set of rollers for superficial and deep tissue massage of the foot soles, unlike Oto chairs which are limited to the less effective foot airbags.

The uDream Wellbeing chair is a prime example. This makes Osim chairs suitable options if you’re looking for something that’s capable of offering Swedish massage techniques as well as some form of foot reflexology.

It’s also worth noting that both brands feature models which promise the capability to offer Shiatsu massage.

However, this needs to be treated with a grain of salt as Shiatsu involves applying pressure on specific points of the body known as acupressure points. This is only possible if there was a detection system to identify these acupressure points, which is pretty much absent in these models.

3. Airbags

2. OTO vs OSIM - Which has more airbags

Airbags are air-filled cells that are typically used to offer compression massage in various areas. The greater the number of airbags the better. The Oto brand holds the upper hand when it comes to airbags in the sense that they generally come in with more airbags.

In fact, Osim’s top three massage chairs only come with 2 airbags to cover both arms while Oto’s chairs come with a more comprehensive airbag system covering feet, calves, hips, arms and Shoulders. A quick comparison between Oto’s Evolution and Osim’s uLove3 Wellbeing chairs should put things into perspective:

While the Evolution comes with 12 airbags to cover the shoulders, waist and feet, the uDream is only limited to two airbags for both arms. However, it’s important to note that Osim models compensate for what they lack in airbags with more extensive roller systems and kneading plates.

4. Additional features

3. Which brand massage chairs offer more features between OSIM and OTO

The Osim brand offers way more than just massage programs compared to Oto. This makes Osim much more capable of a richer experience. This is seen in a wider array of extra features offered by Osim chairs in all price categories. Again, a look at the most advanced chairs from each brand should help us have a clear picture.

Osim’s uDream Wellbeing chair comes packed with complimentary features aimed at enhancing efficiency and providing a holistic massage experience. These include complementary therapies such as Aromatherapy, Chromotherapy, Heat Therapy, and a patented sound system for Music Therapy.

Additionally, the chair comes with extra performance features such as body tension score systems for a more customized massage, and safety features like back and footrest safety mechanisms, as well as an anti-heating mechanism.

Oto’s Prime Elite is advanced enough to be a high-end chair; however, its feature profile isn’t as robust as the uDream Wellbeing chair. Its extra features are limited to a voice control system, automatic body scanning, and Heat Therapy.

5. Auto Programs

Automatic/preset massage programs are good for letting you get an effective massage session without having to set the right parameters, which is a common challenge for beginners. This is why most modern chairs come with a certain number of preset programs to choose from.

Like most brands, Oto chairs come with a number of preset programs designed for specific needs. The Cyber-sense tops the list with a total of 36 programs, seconded by the Elite Prime which comes in with 32.

On the other hand, Osim’s top chairs do not come with a specific number of preset massage programs. You might think this is a major turn-off, but that isn’t the case at all.

Osim chairs feature body tension-sensing technology which allows you to get a highly customized massage experience.

Once activated, the mechanism generates a body tension score based on several parameters and delivers a well-tailored massage based on the results. The uDream Wellbeing and uLove3 Wellbeing Chairs are prime examples.

6. Price

5. OTO or OSIM - Which brand massage chairs are cheaper

Expectedly, Osim’s Chairs are slightly pricier than Oto’s. However, this is justified by the extra perks they bring to the table. This is evident throughout the upper, mid, and lower price categories.

In the high range, the uDream falls at around $10,000 while the Elite Prime falls at $8,900.

Mid-range wise, the uLove3 Wellbeing falls at around $8,000 while the Evolution falls at $6,580.

The same trend continues in the lower price categories, with the uLove 2S going at around $7,000 while the Cyber-sense falls at $5,980.

7. Warranty

Both Osim and Oto massage chairs come with reasonable warranty packages. However, Oto products offer more comprehensive warranty packages than Osim.

All Oto massage chairs come with a general warranty period of 2 years with differences in specifics like leather and maintenance.

For example, the Elite Prime comes with a general warranty period of 2 years, which covers manufacturing defects, and a general maintenance servicing of 5 years. On the other hand, all Osim products come with a 1-year full coverage warranty period.

OTO or OSIM – Which Brand is the Best for You?

From what we’ve considered, my natural choice would be the Osim brand if I was given the chance to choose between the two brands.

The reason is simple; Osim proves to be more effective and efficient in terms of core massage technology and provides a lot more in terms of modern complementary features.

My number one pick would be the uDream Wellbeing massage chair if my budget could be stretched to around $9,000. The reason is that the chair proves to be better in all key aspects or features compared to its Oto competitor. The uDream’s extensive and versatile roller system, body tension score technology, and complimentary therapies leave no chance of competition for Oto’s Prime Elite.

I’d also still be inclined to the Osim brand if my budget was limited to $5,000-$7,000, with the best pick being the uLove3 Wellbeing Chair for the same reasons I would have in the high-end category. The uLove3 is miles ahead as it affords a much more versatile and highly effective roller system, superior customizability, and a richer array of additional features.
